Enrolling your furry family member in Companion Protect is easy!
1. Ensure your pet qualifies.
Companion Protect is available to pet parents who recently adopted a dog or cat from one of our participating Shelter Partners.
2. Get a quote.
Your Companion Protect monthly premium is based on three simple factors: species (dog or cat), your zip code, and your pet’s age.
3. Submit an online application.
Provide a few details, including the best way to contact you, details about your pet, and the shelter you recently adopted from.
4. Provide recent medical records.
Companion Protect will request your pet’s medical records from your veterinarian (with your consent, of course!) to process your enrollment and determine if pre-existing condition exclusions apply. We value complete transparency with our customers and never want you to be surprised when it’s time to use your coverage. That’s why we notify you during the enrollment process if any pre-existing conditions will be excluded from your policy. You can rest easy knowing what is covered, up front.
If your pet hasn’t been to the vet within the past 12 months, an annual visit may be required to kick start coverage. Don’t worry, it will be fast and easy and will set your pet up for the best health and happiness they can handle!
Once we review your pet’s medical records, the process is quick! Within just a few days, we complete your enrollment and begin coverage with no waiting periods! That means you can rest easy knowing your four-legged family member is protected from unexpected accidents, injuries, illnesses and more!
Watch for your welcome kit, including policy and your pet’s insurance card in the mail within 3 to 5 business days of enrollment.

You can visit any licensed veterinarian and we’ll make filing a claim fast and easy! Just visit our Claims page to file online, or call us at 800-304-9930 to submit your claim over the phone.
When you visit the veterinarian, you’ll pay for services at that time and submit a claim for quick reimbursement, typically within 3-5 days of claim approval. Your reimbursement will be the amount of your approved claim less the $100 deductible and 10% copay.

While no pet insurance company covers pre-existing conditions, Companion Protect values complete transparency with our customers.
Once we receive your enrollment application, we review your pet’s medical history to determine whether any pre-existing condition exclusions apply. When identified, we inform you of these exclusions up front — at the time of enrollment, in your welcome kit, and within your coverage policy — so you always know what to expect when it’s time to use your coverage.

We want to make sure you always have the coverage you need for your pet, and that claims are never denied due to past due payment issues. That’s why Companion Protect charges your monthly premium automatically via debit or credit card.
You’ll be charged for your first month at the time your application is approved. We’ll process your second month’s charge 24 days after enrollment. Following that, monthly charges will be processed every 30 days.
This payment structure creates a credit on your account to allow time to update payment in the event we are unable to process payment on your bill cycle date.
